Tequila Volcan De Mi Tierra Blanco

In 2017, luxury group Moët Hennessy formed an alliance with Mexico's Gallardo family to launch a new tequila brand: Volcán de mi Tierra. This is a reference to an extinct volcano located 2,930 meters above sea level, which bears the name “Tequila” and was once considered sacred for its obsidian deposits. The volcano is located near the town of Tequila, after which Mexico's national alcohol is named. During the last violent eruption 200,000 years ago, ash enriched the soil around Tequila with basalt and iron minerals. Agave growers still benefit today. The tequila masters, who produce the agave liqueur on behalf of Gallardo and Moët Hennessy, wait eight years for the plants to reach the ideal harvest time. For Volcán de mi Tierra tequila, they source Weber's blue agaves from lowland and high-altitude areas, which are then processed differently and fermented in different vessels. Tomas Perez oversees production and is responsible for mixing the spirits in the correct proportions.
