Description

The first year of Aventura do Dado, now called Doda, took place in 2000, based on an old idea by Rolf Niepoort – the ideal Portuguese wine will be one that manages to combine the elegance, freshness and longevity of Dão wines with the structure and power of wines from the Douro, which manages to reconcile the ripe fruit of the Douro shale soils with the pine needle aromas and the minerality of the Dão granitic soils. It was with this idea that Dirk contacted Álvaro de Castro for the first time, to combine two batches, one from each region in similar proportions in the search for balance. Since then, every year Dirk and Álvaro have teamed up in search of the blend that best expresses this concept. Because they are wines from two different demarcated regions, the wine is classified as table wine.

VINIFICATION : The 6th edition of Doda is composed of 50% of a Dão blend and 50% of a Douro blend.

Douro wine comes from vineyards over 60 years old where Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz predominate. where the wine aged for 20 months. The Dão blend comes from Quinta da Pellada, from plot 5 in Touriga Nacional, as well as old vines where the mixture of traditional grape varieties prevails. Vinification was carried out in lagares and the wine aged in new and used French oak barrels for 20 months where malolactic fermentation also took place.

TASTING NOTES: Very complex aroma with spicy notes, pine needles and damp earth, with discreet floral and red fruit aromas. In the mouth it shows a very lively acidity, a mineral structure with an impressive and well-defined structure, with well-integrated tannins, very fine and complex fruit, a long and persistent finish. A wine of great longevity
