Description

EXHAUSTED
Rolf Niepoort was the driving force and Dirk Niepoort the creator of this project, which began 17 years ago. This wine stems from Rolf Niepoort's idea that "the ideal Portuguese wine will be one that manages to combine the elegance, freshness, and longevity of Dão wines with the structure and power of Douro wines, that manages to reconcile the fruitiness of the Douro's schist soils with the pine needle aromas and minerality of the Dão's granitic soils."

VINIFICATION: The majority of the Dão batch was vinified in lagar (traditional stone troughs), and then aged in French oak barrels, where it underwent malolactic fermentation.

Approximately 50% of the Douro batch was vinified in vats and the remainder in traditional granite lagares, where it was foot-trodden with a short pre-fermentation maceration. After fermentation, the wine aged for 21 months in French oak barrels, where it underwent malolactic fermentation. Doda was bottled without any fining.

TASTING NOTES: Deep ruby in color with a brick-red ring, the Doda 2013 displays a very forest-like aroma, with menthol notes and a balsamic touch that makes it quite spicy. On the palate, it is very fine and robust simultaneously, with a great balance between its herbaceous character, like some dried green tea leaf, and the tertiary notes from aging in wood. A versatile wine that combines the best of both regions, the freshness of the Dão and the structure of the Douro, providing a very persistent and light finish. Decanting is recommended.
