18 points Grandes Escolhas Wine.

HO ACHADO TINTO 2018 results from the combination of different plots of old HO vines complemented by the Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Sousão grape varieties. With different sun exposures (East, South and West) and a predominance of schist soils, the different plots are located at altitudes ranging from 250 to 400m. The old vine plots have approximately 25 mixed grape varieties and are about 110 years old, resulting in a wine rich in complexity. After manual harvesting, the grapes were transported in 18kg capacity boxes so as not to damage the integrity of the bunch. Once at the winery, the boxes were unloaded onto a sorting conveyor for the first sorting of the grapes. This was followed by destemming, berry-by-berry selection and crushing, which were then transported by gravity to the stainless steel fermentation tanks. After 48 hours of pre-fermentation maceration at low temperatures, alcoholic fermentation took place over 10 days, during which, depending on the grape variety and plot, a protocol of pump-overs and delestages was followed.
Following malolactic fermentation, the different components aged in 400L oak barrels for 18 months. After bottling, the wine aged for a further 12 months in the bottle.

HO ACHADO TINTO 2018 is a ruby-colored wine of deep intensity. Its aroma is very complex, with notes of forest fruits, undergrowth, black fruit, and balsamic freshness.
On the palate, it presents very fine and polished tannins that provide structure and finesse at the same time.
