Herdade do Peso is a unique place. Twelve different soil types have been identified across its 120 hectares of vineyards, allowing the winemaker to work with a wide variety of grape varieties. The 2014 Essência do Peso comes from two plots, indicated on the label, with a slight northern exposure, featuring clayey-limestone soil divided into two subdivisions.
Tasting notes: Very deep garnet-red color. Great intensity and aromatic complexity dominated by components of very ripe black fruits (blackberry, raspberry and black plum), enriched by notes of menthol, dark chocolate, black pepper, and tobacco. Dense on the palate, with firm, high-quality tannins, balanced acidity and an intense, long and complex finish.
Maturation: After malolactic fermentation, the wines were transferred separately to new (60%) and 4-year-old (40%) French oak barrels, where they aged for approximately 12 months until the final blend was made. After bottling, they underwent a controlled temperature aging of 15ºC for 6 months to achieve the appropriate balance for consumption. To preserve its high quality, it was bottled without chilling and without fining, which may result in a slight sediment forming in the bottle.
Serving: The wine is ready to drink, however, bottle aging allows for further development.
