Description
Vinification: The vitican year of 2019 was characterized by a dry climate. Spring began with high temperatures, which were decreasing and remained low throughout the summer. There was some precipitation, which occurred at the right time of the development of the plant and the flowering took place in excellent climacteric conditions, originating an average production high, with grapes quite healthy. The mild days and the fresh nights of August originated slow and balanced maturation.

The vintage began on August 8th. The vintage peak took place in the week from September 8 to 15, ending on October 1st. After a careful selection, both in the vineyard and the cellar, the fermentation took place in stainless steel vats, with pelicular maceration for about 80 days. After the long maceration the wine interned for about 20 months in French oak barrels, of which 50% of new wood.

TEST NOTES: The baton is probably the most structured of our wines along with the robustus. But even structured maintains the Niepoort signature, of delicacy, elegance and freshness. The color is concentrated and when the glass is stirred appear violet. In the nose there is the characteristic graphite note, floral nuances in a base of wild fruits such as blackberry or cassis very well integrated with wood. In the mouth it is young, accurate and structured, but always with the freshness and elegance that both characterizes the Niepoort. It ends long, persistent and spicy.
