Reviews and awards:
17.5 points Grandes Escolhas Wine.
Vineyard: The vineyard is located in the heart of Cima-Corgo, in the parish of Castedo do Douro, on the right bank of the Douro River, with a south-facing exposure. The vines were planted in single-variety plots between 1991 and 1992.
Winemaking: In 12-ton stainless steel fermentation tanks with temperature control, all grape varieties were vinified separately. The fermentation temperature averaged 28ºC, and fermentation lasted 10 days, followed by a further 5 days of post-fermentation maceration. The wines were stored in small-volume tanks.
Maturation: After alcoholic fermentation was complete, the wine was aged in new barrels for 18 months. After this time, the wine was stabilized, followed by bottling and a subsequent 12 months of aging in the bottle.
Exam Notes
Color: A deep, almost black color with beautiful violet hues.
Aroma: Balsamic aromas and very dense notes of dark fruit, very well integrated with the tobacco and vanilla characteristic of aging in wood.
Taste: On the palate it is dense, with well-present tannins and a refreshing acidity, typical of its "terroir," but without anything overpowering, resulting in a smooth, unified whole. It has a long and persistent finish.
