History:

Andrew James Symington was a man who fell in love with the Douro Valley and its wines, and believed that to build a lasting wine business, he and his wife had to instill a long-term vision in their children. Andrew and Beatrice settled their family in the vineyards of the Douro Valley, where their children spent much of their childhood. As an independent Port wine merchant, Andrew Symington gained particular renown when, in 1894, the Portuguese government entrusted him with the sale of approximately 20,000 pipes of Burnay Port wine. Speculative management by the Burnay banking family had resulted in a dangerous overstock of Port wine, and in order to prevent a market collapse, the government was forced to intervene. The skillful way in which he managed this complex process earned Andrew the respect of the industry and also of the Douro farmers, both highly dependent on the stability of the Port wine market. In 1905, Andrew Symington became a partner in Warre & Co. Founded in 1670, Warre & Co. was the oldest British Port wine house in Portugal. In 1908, Andrew became its sole owner. Later, in 1912, Andrew acquired a stake in another Port wine producing company, Silva & Cosens, which marketed its wines under the better-known name Dow'se and, even then, owned three important Quintas in the Douro Valley. In the early 1920s, three of his sons succeeded him in the company, managing it until another generation, the generation of his grandchildren, joined them after the Second World War.

Internship:

Aged for 10 months in French oak barrels.

Pombal do Vesúvio is a wine that will provide great pleasure to those who prefer to drink it right away, being a very accessible and seductive wine.
However, it has very good potential for bottle aging over the next 3 to 5 years.
