VINIFICATION: In shale soil, a strongly laminated metamorphic rock. Rich in nutrients, this soil also has the useful water retention property. The Baixo Corgo lies at the western end closest to the Serra do Marão, where the rain and yield of the vineyards is highest. The Douro has its own microclimate, which is one of the most important reasons for the quality and style of its wines.
