Description

VINHO DOS MORTOS Regional wine from Trás-os-Montes, with 215 years of history, celebrates its anniversary with a renewed image The history of Vinho dos Mortos dates back to the beginning of the 19th century, with the French Invasions, carrying with it the history of a resilient people and the joy of its people, surviving to invaders and rising from the depths of the earth.

Vinho dos Mortos is a regional wine from Trás-os-Montes, of controlled origin, whose territory is limited to the slopes of Vila de Boticas. Ancestral village in the Barroso lands, known for its Honey, its Barrosã Meat, its Sausages and its Wine of the Dead.

Completing 215 years, the Brand presents itself with a renewed image, developed by designer Tiago Rodrigues, which is the culmination of a project developed in recent years with the aim of repositioning Vinho dos Mortos in a higher segment. Valuing the history of a wine with more than two centuries, testimony to the ingenuity and resilience of the Barrosões, while responding to current challenges. Like sustainability, by using simple cardboard packaging, with one-color printing, and sealing the bottles with sealing wax, as in the past.

The History of Wine of the Dead During the French Invasions in Portugal, the populations sought to protect their most precious goods from the invaders' looting. The people of the current region of Boticas were no exception, and afraid that their valuable belongings would be looted, they hid what they could, including the wine, which was buried on the floor of the cellars, under the barrels and lagares.

Later, when they recovered their precious possessions, they discovered that the wine had acquired unusual properties. A wine with a low alcohol content and some gas, the result of the natural fermentation process during the period it was buried and whose conservation benefited from the constant temperature and absence of light. Because it was buried, the wine was named Wine of the Dead. The tradition remains until today, being the living history of the village of Boticas.
