Anselmo Mendes Beira Interior
Description

Type of wine

Anselmo Mendes Beira Int. is a wine produced in the Beira Interior region, specifically the Cova da Beira sub-region. This region, surrounded by the Serra da Estrela, Marofa, and Malcata mountain ranges, is characterized by a harsh climate with sub-zero temperatures in winter and very hot, dry summers. For this wine, we use old vines with the Síria and Fonte Cal grape varieties, characterized by citrus aromas and a unique freshness and minerality, fully implemented throughout the country's border region.

Key points

Grapes harvested manually in small boxes and transported to the winery in a short period of time. Total destemming. Gentle pressing of whole destemmed grapes. Long cold clarification. Fermentation in 400-liter French oak barrels. Aging for 9 months with regular bâtonnage on the lees. Aging for 24 months in the bottle, where it evolved positively.

Tasting notes: Austere nose. Evident minerality with a light spice (nuances of saffron and nutmeg). Hints of dried fruit, kerosene, and vegetal reflections characteristic of the region. Creamy and broad palate, slightly buttery and very textured. Fresh, long, and extremely meticulous finish.
