Established over 100 years ago, the Eigashima distillery focuses primarily on the production of sake and shochu. In 1984, however, it began making whisky known as White Oak. In the years that followed, the distillery produced only blended whisky, until 2007, when it started producing single malts.

The distillery is unusual in that it only produces whisky for one month a year. For this production, barley and malt are imported specially selected from Scotland, and the same water used in its sake and shochu production is used. Eigashima prides itself on following age-old traditions. Its long history is a fascinating one for anyone interested in Japan's rich heritage.
