Description

Founded in 1884 by brothers António and Francisco, the Borges Wine Company quickly became one of the leading national wine companies. Recognizing that only through excellence can Portuguese wines assert themselves in the world, Borges has always focused on the quality of its production, which is now exported to more than fifty countries on five continents.

A complex and elaborate wine that reflects Borges' more than 135 years of experience.

The Borges Reserva Douro Tinto 2021 represents a consistent year, characterized by highly favorable climatic conditions for the healthy development of the vines and gradual ripening. This resulted in balanced wines, with excellent volume, intense color concentration, and aromas with a persistent character.

Winemaking: Total destemming of the grapes followed by gentle crushing. Part of the batch is initially vinified using the traditional lagar method with foot treading, finishing fermentation in stainless steel tanks, while the remaining batch is vinified only in stainless steel tanks. In both vinifications, a brief pre-fermentation maceration is carried out, followed by fermentation on the skins for 6-8 days at a controlled temperature of 28-30ºC with relatively frequent pump-overs. After alcoholic fermentation, a maceration period is carried out after which the wine is separated from the solids with which it fermented. All the wine ages in French oak barrels for 18 months.
Bottling: Processed in an inert atmosphere with complete deoxygenation of the bottle.

Visual Appearance: Clear, with an intense ruby color.
Aroma: This wine has an intense and complex aroma, marked by an explosion of red fruit compote, with notes of cedar that provide a feeling of freshness, perfectly integrated with nuances of smoky wood and vanilla from aging in barrels.
Tasting Notes: On the palate, it is a full-bodied wine, presenting ripe and smooth tannins. The finish is long and persistent with excellent acidity that provides great freshness.
