TEST NOTES: Ruby red with an opaque center. Aromas of black fruit, cedar, leather, and graphite. Full-bodied, with firm tannins but polished edges. Vibrant acidity that persists throughout the tasting. Very long and mineral finish.
TERROIR: Atlantic-influenced climate, protected by the Caramulo and Buçaco mountain ranges. Vines planted at high density (5555 vines per hectare) on gentle hillsides with clay-limestone soils, in the region's famous limestone area. Vines are entirely rainfed.
VINIFICATION: Manual harvesting with selection on a sorting table at the entrance to the winery. This is followed by destemming and crushing, with the resulting product being transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks where alcoholic and malolactic fermentation takes place. Maceration lasts for approximately 20 days, using the delestage technique. The wine is then aged for 24 to 30 months in used 225-liter French oak barrels. It further ages for 6 years in the bottle before being released to the market.
