By fermenting the two grape varieties that make up the blend together, a superior integration of their particular qualities was achieved. One variety is known for its intense color and aroma, while the other, on the contrary, is known for its discreet color and restrained, austere aromas, resulting in a wine that offers the best of both worlds. The aromatic exuberance of one, with its nuances of red and black fruits, is tempered by the finesse and freshness of the other variety, with its smooth aromas, highlighting black cherry and dark chocolate, pepper, and a refreshing minerality. Elegance and harmony are two striking characteristics, evident on the palate, where the freshness and quality of the smooth tannins contribute to a whole, recognized as unconventional in this region, but with its own distinct identity.
Winemaking:
From the Latin word clandestinus: In secret; done in secret; without anyone knowing; hidden; contrary to law or morality. Planted outdoors in the heart of the Dão region, the grapes that make up this Clandestino have distant origins. Made in a complicit way, by all those who harvested and worked them, this wine is fresh, luscious, enigmatic and even – some say – immoral.
