Esporão Vineyard da Defesa
Description

Set within a contemporary context, Esporão Vinha da Defesa Tinto is an Alentejo wine from Herdade do Esporão. Elegant and intense, it offers a silky texture on the palate.

In the 13th century, D. João de Aboim, a descendant of Egas Moniz and a central figure during the reign of King Afonso III, formed, from various territories donated by the municipalities of Monsaraz and Portel, the Defesa do Esporão – one of the oldest estates in southern Portugal.
Based on a selection of well-defined plots of land on the estate, Esporão Vinha da Defesa Tinto is a wine from the Alentejo region characterized by its distinctive style, intense and elegant profile.
For the production of Esporão Vinha da Defesa Tinto, the Touriga Nacional and Syrah grape varieties were used. The harvest was carried out separately for each variety. Destemming, crushing and alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats with controlled temperatures (22 to 25ºC). Pressing, and finally malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats.
It goes well with meals containing white meat, pork, salads, and sausages.

With approximately 700 hectares of vineyards, 40 grape varieties and 4 olive varieties, orchards and vegetable gardens, Herdade do Esporão is located in the heart of the Alentejo region, which offers unique conditions for agriculture - large temperature variations, poor and varied soils and extraordinary biodiversity.
Integrated into the Reguengos de Monsaraz DOC, Herdade do Esporão prioritizes the selection of the best grapes from its "terroir" and the creativity of its winemakers in order to obtain wines with personality, structure, and complexity. Produced in small quantities, these are exclusive wines for intense and intimate moments.

Exam Notes

With an intense ruby color and clear appearance, Esporão Vinha da Defesa Tinto presents aromas of black fruit and cocoa with notes of fresh spices. On the palate, with notes of luscious fruit, this red wine is creamy and rich. Long and balanced finish.
