Favaios Commemorative Edition 70 years Moscatel do Douro
Description

This limited edition combines the youthfulness and freshness of younger Moscatel wines with the delicacy and harmony of older wines, creating a wine that perfectly represents the best of Moscatel from our Favaios Plateau. With great aromatic intensity, the floral and fruity notes of Moscatel stand out, as well as toasted and spicy notes. On the palate, it is a Moscatel where balance and elegance are paramount, all very well balanced by the lively acidity. It finishes with great complexity and persistence.

Winemaking:
After careful selection of the best grapes, they were macerated and fermented as was traditionally done in the region. Alcoholic fermentation is very short, and soon after the cap rises, most of the must is drained off and brandy is added. A small portion of the must continues to ferment and macerate with the skins for a few more days, and only later is this aromatically rich must fortified. The first and second fortified musts are then blended and stored in old wooden barrels and vats where the wine ages slowly, refining its bouquet over several years. The long years of aging in wood help to further develop and complexify the wine's aromatic profile, as well as its palate. This wine, commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Favaios Cooperative Winery, is a blend that brings together seven of these exceptional Moscatel wines, with one vintage chosen from each of the last seven decades. The selected years were 1964, 1975, 1980, 1999, 2007, 2011 and 2020, thus creating a Moscatel that represents our entire history and is also a tribute to all our collaborators and associated winegrowers.
