Winemaking:
It is vinified using the traditional Port wine method. The hand-picked grapes are gently crushed and, after partial destemming, fermented with maceration, allowing the extraction of the best components from the grape skins. The entire process takes place under strict temperature and density control, allowing the winemaker to choose the ideal moment for the addition of wine alcohol, essential to stop fermentation and maintain the natural sweetness of Port wine. This moment depends on the grape varieties, stage of ripeness, and required final sweetness levels. After the harvest, the wine remains in the Douro Valley, where the winter cold helps to settle the lees. The following spring, the wines are transferred to the company's traditional cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and stored in oak casks, where they age for several years. During their aging, the winemaking team monitors the wines and acts through blends, refreshments, and corrections whenever tasting dictates. The final blend is obtained after selecting wines with suitable characteristics and ages ranging from 2 to 5 years, allowing the unique identity of Ferreira Tawny Port to be maintained, with an average age of 4 years.
