Louis Jadot: Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru
Description

The property

The Louis Jadot House Established in 1859, Louis Jadot is a true benchmark in Burgundy. Its adventure began with the acquisition of the Beaune Premier Cru "Clos des Ursules" in 1826. Owner of prestigious vineyard plots, Louis Jadot perpetuates a know-how passed down through generations, offering lovers the best of Burgundy.

Having led the House of Louis Jadot since 1992, Pierre-Henry Gagey handed over his position to Thomas Seiter (Bouchard Père et Fils) in September 2022, and the General Management to his son Thibault Gagey.

The vineyard

The 1er cru "Morgeot" is a Chassagne-Montrachet wine originating from a vineyard of just under 0.5 hectares located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune. Facing east and southeast, this exceptional terroir rests on clay-limestone soil.

The harvest

The mild, dry winter delays the vine's cycle. After late budding, the vine grows vigorously in May. Flowering is early with beautiful bunches. Some storms in July alleviate the lack of water, and ripening begins. August sees a heat wave followed by beneficial rains. The colheita begins in early September under intense heat. The white wines show beautiful acidity, the red wines are dense with ripe tannins. The vintage presents a good balance and promises long aging potential, with wines of crisp and pure aromas.

Winemaking and aging

Harvested by hand, the grapes are gently pressed before fermentation in barrels (1/3 of which are new) sourced from the estate's cooperage. Aged for approximately 15 months on fine lees.
