Marquês de Borba Red
Description

Marquês de Borba red wine, produced by João Portugal Ramos, is a regional wine from the Alto Alentejo region that brings together the best grape varieties of this area.

One of João Portugal Ramos' most emblematic brands, Marquês de Borba combines the tradition of the Alentejo region with exceptional quality, evident since the brand's first colheita in 1997. The name arises from the fortunate coincidence that João Portugal Ramos' vineyards and winery are located in the Borba sub-region, and that an uncle held the noble title of Marquis of Borba, a title created in 1811. Part of the grapes are fermented in marble lagares (traditional stone vats) and the rest in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. It is aged for 6 months in second and third-year French and American oak barrels.

Winemaking: The grapes are destemmed, crushed, and cooled. After pre-fermentation maceration, part of the grapes are fermented in marble lagares (traditional stone troughs) and the remainder in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.

Stage: Six months in French and American oak half-pipes, second and third year.

Exam Notes

Marquês de Borba Tinto is an Alentejo wine with excellent aromatic concentration. Intense fruit, aromas of blackberries, cassis and jams. Smooth tannins. Good balance between fruit, acidity and tannins.
