Niepoort Bioma Crusted

VINIFICATION: This Port predominantly originates from wines from the 2012 harvest. The grapes are trodden by foot, in lagares, with 100% stems, in the winemaking center of Vale de Mendiz. In spring, the wine is transferred to a very cool place in the Quinta de Nápoles cellar and placed in casks (traditional 550 liters). Bioma Crusted is aged in these casks, in the Douro, instead of being aged as usual at Niepoort Crusted, in large vats in Gaia, and was bottled in 2014.

TASTING NOTES: Predominantly deep red color, with hints of blue on the rim. Somewhat understated nose with smooth primary aromas of black fruits and silky character. On the palate, it reveals a very firm structure that hides the flavor of exceptional black fruits, such as blackberries and black plums, creating a long and powerful but balanced finish. The color and structure of this wine indicate that this Port will benefit from long-term maturation.
