This wine originates from one of the most special vineyards in Bairrada, reflecting the freshness and delicate character that defines Niepoort. Despite its youth, it already displays an impressive balance and fine tannins. The nose reveals the purity of the Baga grape variety, with notes of violet and red fruits such as cherry, complementing the nuances of spices and the chalky character reminiscent of the vineyard's terroir. On the palate, it presents incredible structure and sophistication. The vibrant fruit and excellent acidity produce a delicate, elegant, and exceptionally fine wine. The finish is refreshing, saline, and clearly expresses the wine's chalky terroir. This wine can be fully appreciated young, showcasing its harmony, but also promises great aging potential.
Winemaking:
The wines exhibit a balanced acidity and a high intensity of color. The high temperatures in August and September resulted in a slightly higher alcohol content, while maintaining the freshness and elegance of the Quinta de Baixo wines. Lot D was vinified in stainless steel, where it fermented for 4-5 weeks, finishing fermentation in an old 2500 L barrel. Malolactic fermentation took place in the same barrel, where it aged for 21 months. It was bottled without filtration.
