VINIFICATION
The 2017 viticultural year was characterized by extreme drought. The harvest was early, short and intense. It started on the 10th of August and ended on the 10th of September, with no record of such an early start to the harvest at Niepoort.
The grapes come from a single altitude vineyard, which allows for a phenomenal balance between sugars and acidity. It was harvested in mid-August, keeping all its fresh character in a very hot year.
After extremely careful bunch-by-bunch selection, the alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel vats with around 20% of the whole bunch, macerating for approximately 1 month while the full potential of the vine was extracted very carefully.
Trained in fuders over 60 years old.
TEST RESULTS
Turris 2017 is a wine that stamps the fresh profile of Niepoort in a hot and dry year like 2017. With an intense ruby color, quite spicy in the aroma, with some black fruit combined with the mineral profile of graphite, characteristic of a vineyard in schist soil . In the mouth, it surprises for its elegance and structure at the same time, showing black fruit from the forest and some green pepper, with a very fine and electric mouthfeel, and a dry and persistent finish. A complex wine with a unique character in the Douro. Recommended decanting.
