Quinta da Touriga Chã Tinto

After dedicating about 50 years of his life to duirinic winemaking and a few years before he died, José António Castro Ramos Pinto Rosas decided to realize his last dream, to realize the “perfect fifth” for the production of Porto and Wine and Douro.
After a long and detailed study of the Douro Demarcated Region and with the help of topographic letters, José Rosas found a property about 20 hectares, in the Superior Douro near Vila Nova de Foz Côa, which for its characteristics (location, altitude, Sun exposure, soils, etc.), thought he had the ideal conditions to produce superior quality wines.
He bought the property in the early 1990s and 72 years old, decided to apply all the know-how he acquired throughout his career. He planted a vineyard with about 8.5 hectares, with selected castes (Massal selection), over a very hard, schone and “virgin” solo where this type of culture had never existed before.
The decision (only until then) to plant a farm with about 80% of Touriga Nacional, took J.A.R.P.R. to "baptize" the fifth with the name Touriga. Although this caste is very little productive, José Rosas considered, at the time, to be one of the noblest in the region for the quality of the wines that came from it.
The rest was planted with the paint caste.
Today Quinta da Touriga is administered by his Fi Lho Jorge who decided to follow up on his father's dream giving a new boost in the history of property. In 2004 he completed the construction of a modern cellar that was awarded in 2006 with first place in the “Douro Architecture Prize”. There are currently limited amounts of two wines with denomination of controlled Douro, Pure and Quinta da Touriga-Chã, now recognized by the specialized press as one of the best wines produced in the demarcated region.

Produced mostly from Touriga Nacional caste, coupled with Touriga Franca, it is a strong color wine and good concentration, with elegant and fresh wild fruits, with acidity and well -balanced wood notes, and an end of Long and persistent mouth. Good aging potential.
