Description

Quinta do Noval Colheita is a rare Port wine, produced in small
quantities. It is a Tawny from a single vintage.
Each Colheita is different even if it is always marked by the terroir of Quinta do Noval and the year, just like our Vintage Port, but aged in oak casks until it is bottled.
HARVEST CHARACTERISTICS
The winter of 2005 saw above average temperatures and rainfall was 74% lower than the previous 30 year average. These climatic conditions accelerated the vine cycle until the beginning of maturation, which began in the first week of August, continuing with very hot and dry weather. The low water reserves in the soil before the rains of September 6th led to the development of smaller but more concentrated berries. The rain finally appeared on the 6th of September, improving the qualitative potential of the vines that had been able to wait until they reached optimal maturation. The harvest was divided into two periods: From the 29th of August to the 4th of September. Then a stop between the 5th and 18th of September. The harvest started again on the 19th of September and ended on the 16th of October.
The harvest turned out to be a success and we produced wines of remarkable character and balance.

The grapes were crushed and fermented in the Quinta's traditional mills, where a

In exceptional years, some batches of wine with great aging potential are
separated and aged in casks to make Colheita, a single year Tawny.
When we consider that the wine is ready, often after about 15
years, we bottled some of this wine to market. This Colheita 2005 is a first
traffic jam. The remaining 2005 Colheita stock will continue to age in casks
for future traffic jams, when we decide the time is right.
