Quinta do Noval Reserva 2017

Intense and concentrated, with a fine structure of tannins, it is distinguished by its delicacy, a characteristic of the Quinta do Noval style. It is the product of a strict selection among the best batches produced by our property in a given year. This wine is delicious when young, but also matures well in the cellar.

HARVEST CHARACTERISTICS
2017 was characterized by a cold and dry winter, followed by an exceptionally hot and dry spring and summer. In addition to the heavy rainfall (25mm) on the 6th of July at Quinta do Noval, only 300mm has fallen since November 2016.
June was the hottest month since 1980, with temperatures reaching 42-44°C in the Douro valley during the heat wave felt between the 7th and 24th of June. Due to these extreme weather conditions, the entire growth cycle of the vine advanced
15 to 20 days compared to 2016. The vines withstood water shortages and high temperatures well. At the end of August, the harvest was very promising and in excellent phytosanitary conditions.
The harvest started much earlier than usual due to weather conditions: on the 17th of August for the white wines and the 21st of August for the reds and port wines. It ended on the 28th of September with high temperatures and complete absence of rain.

TASTING NOTE
This wine has a dark, almost opaque color and an intense nose of wild berries, raspberries and spices. It reveals mineral notes, well integrated with those of wood and dark chocolate. Very good tannins and finesse.

VINIFICATION
This wine is fermented in stainless steel vats for 15 days, where malolactic fermentation then takes place.
