A VINEYARD WITH A UNIQUE TERROIR
Vintage Quinta do Noval is characterized by its purity of fruit and a fine and delicate quality, which is typical of the property's wines in general, but which finds its most notable and lasting expression in the Vintage Ports. Balance, harmony, finesse and elegance characterize our Vintage Ports, which are only declared in excellent years (3 or 4 years in each decade) and only when the wines meet Noval's most demanding standards. Even so, the wines selected for Quinta do Noval Vintage Port represent only a small part of our total production.


HARVEST CONDITIONS IN 2012
The year 2012 was characterized by an extremely dry and cold winter, followed by a rainy spring and a dry summer. The spring rains were of crucial importance as they provided the necessary water for the development of the vineyard. These conditions reduced production, a fact which, together with the mild spring and summer temperatures, allowed the vines to reach excellent bunch maturation. The harvest started a week later than usual. Although 2012 was a year of low rainfall, the grapes were in very good condition, with small but perfect berries that produced tasty musts, full of freshness and with good acidity. DECLARATION
Quinta do Noval has always had a somewhat eccentric attitude towards the declaration of Vintage, and in fact to a large extent, the House has made its reputation with the
declaration of its magnificent Vintage 1931. When we are convinced that we have a wine of sufficient quality to deserve the declaration of Quinta do Noval Vintage Port, we do not hesitate to do so. 2012 is a prime example.

VINIFICATION
The grapes are trodden by foot in the presses to obtain the must, and then macerated during fermentation to obtain the best possible extraction.
