VINTAGE
In the Douro region, the impacts of drought and high temperatures were very evident, resulting in reduced grape production. However, the smaller berry size made the grapes more concentrated, thus increasing their potential quality. The September rain (around 30mm) also contributed to this, helping to rehydrate the plants and optimize the ripening process, in a year when the region received approximately 100mm of rain. The harvest was short and very challenging. The quality of the wines is excellent; despite the lower volume produced, it was a fantastic year.
In terms of quality, the low production resulted in very concentrated wines. Despite all the difficulties, we believe it will be a promising year with very balanced and elegant wines.
ORIGIN OF THE GRAPES:
We ventured into the highest regions of the Douro in search of the best grapes and varieties that reflect the minerality and balance of this region and bring an unparalleled freshness to the Vale D. Maria Douro Superior Branco.

VINIFICATION AND AGING:
The grapes are destemmed and the must extracted for fermentation, in a completely manual process. After fermentation, 65% of the batch ages in stainless steel tanks and the remaining 35% undergoes the final third of alcoholic fermentation in used 500L French oak barrels. This is followed by a 6-month aging process in French oak barrels with weekly bâtonnage.

TEST NOTES:
The Vale D. Maria Douro Superior white 2022 presents a clear and bright citrus color. On the nose, it is an intense wine, with aromas of stone fruit and some herbaceous notes. The citrus notes combine with the freshness that the wine presents. On the palate, it is a delicate, elegant, and creamy wine. Its acidity defines a fresh and long finish.
