Vieira De Sousa Vintage 2022

Vieira de Sousa Vintage 2022 is produced from a Vieira de Sousa family estate, Quinta da Água Alta e Bom Dia. The vines for this vintage are located in Bom Dia, are over 50 years old, and face south/east at the top of the estate. Here, it is possible to identify more than 10 different grape varieties. This vineyard is situated at the top of a cool valley, facing east, which makes it perfect for producing balanced grapes for this special wine. The year 2022 was marked by extreme heat conditions, with very little water available to the vines during the growing season. Maturation was accelerated and production slightly lower than in other years. Despite the adverse conditions, the grapes showed very good concentration and fruit, resulting in wines with great concentration and potential.

Winemaking

The grapes were colheita manually from the vineyards and subsequently transported in small boxes. After being selected upon arrival at the winery, they were destemmed, and alcoholic fermentation took place in lagares (traditional stone troughs) with foot treading, remaining in contact with the skins for several days. At the right moment, grape brandy was added, perfectly blending with the must to produce this fantastic Vintage Port.
