INTRODUCTION From the vineyards of Casa de Vilar, where Regina Pessoa and Abi Feijó live and find inspiration for their creations, an Alvarinho fermented in barrels was created, with a very particular profile, different from the expressive and aromatic style of this grape variety from the Minho region. As the name suggests, Wanabi is a wine that attempts to be a distinct Alvarinho.
VINIFICATION The grapes come from a 1.6 ha vineyard belonging to Casa de Vilar, planted in the Vale do Sousa sub-region. The wine was vinified and aged in used French oak barrels. After 10 months in barrel, it was bottled in June 2016.
TASTING NOTES As with the first edition, this is a very discreet and elegant Alvarinho, with good notes of citrus fruits, a touch of floral notes, tea leaf and wet stone. The barrel notes are very well integrated, giving complexity. On the palate, it has good volume, with acidity and minerality, in contrast with a very discreet sweetness. The finish is long and refreshing, complex and balanced. Wanabi is suitable for the table, but will have good evolution in the bottle and it will be interesting to follow its trajectory.
